Ryo's Field Guide to Anthropology - Fairies
The most iconic specimen of the notoriously varied fey phylum, members of the Minutifae genus are categorized by their small stature and insectile nature. Fairies, as is their common name, possess four arms, two legs, and retractable wings. Also notable are the compound eyes, antennae, and semi-pliable carapace. One might be forgiven for assuming these creatures to be literally insects, but this is simply a byproduct of the unmatched physiological diversity of the fey phylum. Think how crabs and barnacles are both crustaceans, but taken to an absurd degree. This physiology, tragically, limits their lifespan severely, as detailed later on. Minutifae gracilis, or the “sprite”, is revered by other fey for being especially in tune with the spirit of the land. Thus, sprite queens are given deference by other genera of fey, and as such are usually simply called fairy queens.
